'Chilli Queen' Diamond Jubilee Special is a green chilli cheeseburger with spiky chipotle mayo which certainly fits the bill - it has plenty of kick, real staying power and is for strong constitutions only
'Chilli Queen' is available between May 3rd and June 5th and is a collaboration with fellow hamburger expert Fred Smith from the Admiral Codrington in Chelsea (@fredsmith_)
Most people reading this review will know the quality of burgers Fred Smith and Byron dish up so when hearing there was a collaboration burger it can only mean a tasty burger!
Due to work and wanting(being told) to wait and share the first tasting with the Mrs I had to wait a painful 5 days from launch to try this! What made it worse was that a few of the elite burger community had an advance preview, and now I had to wait even longer!
MEAT - Cooked as always with Byron, as I requested, and to perfection. Only criticism I have is I would like it a bit bigger. Who doesn't want more of a good thing though?
BUN - A glazed soft bun lightly toasted. Much better than their usual bun. Everything you would want from a bun.
TOPPINGS - Green Chilli, American Cheese, Shredded Iceberg, Chipotle Mayo all gorgeous! The chipotle mayo was really special and the jalapenos had a nice kick without being overbearing, for me anyway. One of my friends however was picking the chilli out of the burger as it was too much for him to handle.
SIDES – Went for the Home Made Skin-on Chips at £3.25 and Onion Rings at £2.95. Onion rings were big crispy and tasty however the chips were a slightly under cooked and bit hard in the middle rather then the soft fluff they usually are.
For drink I had a couple of Byron Pale Ale's which are made in Camden Brewery and very tasty but at £4.25 for 330ml a bit steep for me.
With only a couple of weeks left of this special burger don't miss out. Get out to your nearest Byron, you wont regret it!
