Korean Style burger, lacking a kick

Another Thursday lunchtime trip to the Gherkin for some KERB street food, more specifically a burger. There probably isn't a better named building for a burger in the world is there?

I hadn't heard much of Kimichi Cult before however a quick search shows Danny O'Sullivan & Sarah Hogg together have been delivering Korean style fast food to the Streets of London for a couple of years now.

MEAT - Cooked to well done and very dry subsequently. I wasn't asked how I wanted it cooked, so some blame could be left with me not requesting my preference of medium rare, however more often then not now burgers are being cooked medium and this is what I am used to. Seasoning on the patty seemed non existent and overall was quite tough.

BUN - A really heavily weighted bun with a leather-like touch on the top. A good strong dense bun that would have managed to deal with juices with ease.

TOPPINGS - American cheese, bacon and Kimichi. The cheese and bacon were fine however the bacon did have a slight pull on the fat but the Kimichi was the star of the whole burger.

Kimichi is Korea's national dish and consists of fermented vegetables with seasoning and the main ingredient is, like here, usually cabbage. It had a smell of Chinese take away but packed full of flavour. It was juicy and there seemed like a lot of individual flavours with the taste of coriander coming through, which is great for me as it's probably my favourite herb, there was a subtle heat to it as well which was fantastic.

SIDES –

The whole burger was unfortunately a bit dry. The Kimchi did its best to add some juices to the patty but alas it lost the fight.

It was definitely a change to the 'usual' burgers on offer in London and the Kimchi was very tasty so I would happily try some more of what Kimchi Cult had to dish up, however the patty needs some improvements before I went for a burger again.

Overall Rating 6/10

  1. Kimchi not spicy enough, not that amazing after all the hype.
